Why Blog a Documentary?

As much as it's about my documentary, this blog is about working independently on a long-term project. Motivation, productivity, learning-as-you-go, and fighting technology are challenges many people face today on projects like my documentary.

I cover some questions in a post here.

New draft of engineer's explanation

What causes congestion? Engineer's perspective. Draft 2 from Lewis on Vimeo.

Some of the stock footage I acquired didn't work, so I used the free sample. I will get that worked out in the future. Also, teh audio is a little weird.

The biggest thing is that there need to be more visual elements in the piece. Like trees moving, different types of cars, different colors of cars, etc.

  1. nice work, lew!

the new stoptime freezeframes look good. and the zoom onto the men and women looks really cool.

i would try putting the (rectangular)pie-chart on a different frame. it's a little distracting to have the green sign under it.

  2. You're right about that. But what if the "slices" coformed more to the shape of the sign? I feel like however they appear they have to be integrated into the "sign" theme somehow.

  3. they can be integrated into a road theme in a different way. you can have a circular chart layered over a tire, or a steering wheel. you could have the green sign with nothing but the word "congestion" at the top. or you could have the chart over a car graphic that's framed (enclosed in a colored rectangle).
